Sigri Folklore Center

Category

The Sigri Folklore Center is housed on the west ground floor of the building of the Holy Trinity Church, in Sigri Square.

The space was built in the first half of the 18th century as a water tank. This impressive square had an important role in the residential development of Sigri, as the existence of water attracted residents to build their homes in the settlement.

Subsequently, a new tank was built at the top of the village and the space, around 1950, was used for a long time as a private or community warehouse.

In 1995, after it was renovated, the first attempt was made to create and operate a Folklore Center. The second attempt was made by Antonis Hiotis, in the summer of 2025. Now, the Folklore Center of Sigri houses a multitude of exhibits from the past, such as agricultural tools, household items, items from shops, handicrafts, metal utensils, machinery and old electrical appliances.

Above all, however, it houses collective and individual memories and the soul of a refugee village.
